David Tzou, MD, is a Tucson native and earned his medical degree at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. He also completed his internship in general surgery and residency in urologic surgery at the University of Arizona. During his residency, Dr. Tzou won numerous patient care awards, including the George W. Drach Award for exemplifying compassion in the care of urologic patients. He stayed on at the UA as an assistant professor before moving to become an assistant adjunct professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). He recently completed a 2-year endourology and laparoscopy fellowship at UCSF.
“Dr. Tzou will help develop a new multi-disciplinary Stone Clinic, in collaboration with Urology, Nephrology, and Nutrition, to help patients who are recurrent stone formers determine metabolic causes to prevent stones from returning,” said Dr. Benjamin Lee, Urology Division chief. “Dr. Tzou has a clinical interest in ultrasound-guided percutaneous access for patients with large staghorn calculi and brings this expertise to the University of Arizona and BUMC-T.”
Dr. Tzou is a board-certified urologist specializing in the treatment of urinary stone disease and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He is an active member of the American Urological Association (AUA), the Western Section of the AUA (WSAUA), and the Endourological Society.
Dr. Tzou’s research interests focus on improving clinical outcomes for patients with kidney stones and BPH, utilizing ultrasound to treat complex kidney stones, and improving communication between patients and physicians.
